Lorrie Bortner

Lorrie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She holds an MFA in painting, MA in education and MSCI and BSCI in interdisciplinary studies. She has enjoyed painting since a child.
She has been practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique since 1971 and became a teacher in 1974.
Lorrie’s paintings are mixed media. Her works have been in exhibitions throughout the US.
She also creates murals with youth. These can be seen primarily in Taos, New Mexico. Public art is very important to her.
Another avenue of expression is colcha embroidery, a traditional art form of Northern New Mexico. She teaches this as an artist in the schools.
Lorrie has coordinated many educational events at museums. She has received numerous grants for her paintings and murals. Grants received are from; Bread for the Journey, The Puffin Foundation Ltd, Open Studio: The Arts Online, and the Iowa Arts Council. She has attended artist residencies at the Virginia Center for the Arts and the Vermont Studio Center. Lorrie currently serves on the board of directors of the Taos Artist Organization, TAO, as Director of Educational Programs, in Taos, New Mexico.
“I love to paint. My interest lies in using a lively palette and strong forms to create images from my heart and intuition. Many of these images hold a symbolic meaning.”
